Published: Friday, 06 July 2018
GC Tan

Mr GC Tan is one of the founding members and also the MOMG EXCO member till his retirement from Pacific Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd in 2018. As an EXCO member, he was instrumental in forging closer working relationship between MOMG with the relevant Government agencies in supporting the growth of the industry (e.g. Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), Ministry of International Trade Industry (MITI), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), etc.) as well as other local oleochemical companies to join the Group.

Through the MOMG platform, he together with other EXCO members formed an alliance with other oleochemical producers in the region i.e. Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand with the establishment of the ASEAN Oleochemical Manufacturers Group (AOMG) in 1985 where annual meetings and activities are still till being held to this day. AOMG was established to promote closer relations and cooperation between the oleochemical manufacturers in the region with other national, regional and international organisations with similar aims and objectives. This also led to the co-operation with the European Oleochemical and Allied Products Group (APAG) where information sharing and data exchange between AOMG and APAG took place.

When the oleochemical industry was at its early stages in the 1980s, market advancement externally was also important to ensure the sustainability of the oleochemical industry. Mr Tan was also part of the pioneering group that established a working relationship with the Japan Soap and Detergent Association (JSDA) based in Tokyo, Japan, which focused on oleochemical industry information sharing and to promote Japanese investments in Malaysia.

On July 4, 2018, MOMG presented a token of appreciation to Mr GC Tan in appreciation of his time and support to MOMG activities throughout the years.  MOMG wishes him happy retirement!
